Hunky Alaskan dive master and charter boat captain Jackson Cameron is absolutely sure he's straight until openly gay treasure hunter Dax Powers calls him and offers him the adventure of a lifetime: Dax and his sister Donatella have found the Anna Wyoming, a ship that went down during the 1889 gold rush on return from Skagway Island–very possibly carrying a fortune in gold. But real treasure is never free, and this one comes with some heavily armed strings attached. Jack and Dax struggle to keep their small crew safe from a powerful threat while they fight against the attraction they feel for each other. Between the danger of the hunt, the risks in the dive, and the thrill of being lost in passion, Dax and Jack are going to have a hard time holding on to their treasure... and to each other!
The salvaging of sunken treasure is the basic plot point of the poorly written Treasure of Love by Scotty Cade. Although such an idea has great potential to make for an interesting gay novel it unfortunately never comes to life. Captain Jackson (Jack) Cameron operates a ship that treasure seeker Daxston (Dax) Powers and his twin sister Donatella (Dona) hire to search for the century-old sunken wreck of the “Anna Wyoming.” Captain Jack, who believes himself to be straight, immediately takes a dislike to Dax whom he considers arrogant. Dax returns the instant disdain so it is obvious that they are going to fall into each other’s arms. This happens very quickly since they are both incredibly beautiful, as protagonists of such books tend to be. Their eventual coupling promises to be very sexy and indeed the sex scenes are among the most competently written, if somewhat clinical. Along for the ride are Jack’s brother-in-law Mack (his wife has died) and his doctor lover Brad. Much of the book is taken up with highly detailed descriptions of diving and salvage operations, and since Cade is himself a sailor these probably are accurate. However the extremely flat and cliché-ridden dialogue and descriptions simply do not raise the reader’s excitement level even when the characters are in maximum danger. This peril comes from both the salvage work itself and from villains who are introduced very late in the story and who prove to be as unbelievably clichéd as the book itself.
