Synopsis

Sixteen-year old Lyndsay (Brooke Nevin) wants nothing to do with Christmas, especially when it comes to hanging out with her family. Forbidden to go on a ski trip with her friends, Lyndsay rebels and goes shopping. But after meeting Santa Claus (George Hamilton) at the mall, her life -- and his -- are transformed forever! After Lyndsay gives Santa a modern-day makeover, he decides to bring her along for the Christmas Eve ride. Only then does Lyndsay come face to face with the true meaning and spirit of the holidays.

Two versions of this movie were filmed simultaneously -- in A Very Cool Christmas, also available on this site, Lyndsay's two dads are replaced by a heterosexual couple. The movies are otherwise identical.

Review

Here is a perfect example of where an idea that looked great on paper didn't work creatively. Here! tried to create two versions of this film: one gay and the other with straight characters. They shot both films at once on the same sets with most of the same characters. It sounds kind of intriguing, but the results are less so. Yes, both films are well-crafted, but there's something downright peculiar about the whole process. Too Cool from Christmas is indeed very cool -- almost frozen with no emotion. The actors appear to be confused about which film they're in. I know I would be. They only did this once or twice and abandoned the idea -- thankfully. What we've got is another addition to the growing sub-genre of gay Christmas films. I'd rank this one well-below TLA Releasing's cult classic 24 Nights.
