Before you read the delightful “Tips on Having a Gay (ex) Boyfriend”, there are several things you need to get ready. Get really comfortable because you are not going anywhere until you finish reading and have some snacks handy in case you should get hungry. Make sure you have some tissues or a handkerchief near by because this is such a touching story and clear your mind of everything and get ready for a wonderful read. If you are any kind of a prude, you will probably, however, want to look elsewhere for something to read because this book is about sexually active high school students. Be prepared to fall in love with the characters is the book
Belle Philbrick is a high school senior who writes songs. When she is dumped by Dylan, her boyfriend, she takes us on a narrative of the week that follows. She gives herself only a week to mourn her dead relationship because she does not want to spend a long time being sick over the end of her romance. She spends a lot of time with her friend Emily and gets close to Tom, Dylan’s best friend. She lives in the small town of Eastbrook, Maine and it only took a day before everyone knew that Belle and Dylan broke up but evenmore that Dylan left her by announcing that he was gay. Now Belle has to come terms with the ended relationship and the way the entire town reacts to Dylan’s sexuality.
Belle has strong feelings of social justice and even though she is hurt because of the break-up, she feels she must help Dylan. When Dylan starts dating another boy and is ridiculed by his classmates, she supports him completely. Confused by Dylan’s confession, she evaluates the time they were together and when she realizes that he is really a “good” guy, she heals her broken heart and goes about making things better for Dylan. But she doesn’t stay alone for long and soon finds a new boyfriend, Tom.
Basically a book for younger reader, here is a story we can all relate to and enjoy. Should you be in the mood for a light read, here is a book for you.
