Dame Edna is truly an experience. Having seen her (him) live, I think this series is her best. In each of these ridiculous attempts at a talk-show episode, she talks over her guests, the "stars" and makes a complete mockery of the format. And I should mention, if you don't know already, that Dame Edna Everage is an outrageously dressed drag queen. She's the female counterpart of Australian comedian Barry Humphries. Not a pretty woman, or the most handsome man, you should know. Dame Edna receives guests in her grand luxury residence, where she holds court with her star guests, who sit baffled as she babbles over everything they attempt to say. She expects them all to practically bow down to her, to be grateful to simply be in her presence. Meanwhile the stars and audience are subject to a constant abuse and mockery. Graham Norton definitely watched Dame Edna and took a few of her cues. And then there's the traditional sidekick, her "Ed McMahon, is Madge. The perpetual bridesmaid, Madge's sole function appears to be as a victim of Dame Edna's verbal abuse. And btw, madge is also a man in woman's garb. Dame Edna is a landmark of queer entertainment and this DVD seems a perfectly good excuse to get you guys interested in her again!
