This was a moderate mainstream hit on video upon its original release - gay subtext intact.
Even though there is not as much homoerotic imagery as their would be in future installments, the boys of the original Brotherhood are still very cute.

Review

Director David DeCoteau has set up a cottage industry producing horror films with homoerotic undertones and plot lines. His films are generally distinguished by high production values, gorgeous guys, imaginative story lines, campy laughs and a complete lack of substance (fully intended). The Brotherhood is one of his most successful offerings.

There is a rather amazing fraternity on campus with four members always dressed as if they are going out to a gay club right after school. These rather demonic guys are looking for a new recruit, who they feel they have found in Chris, a rather studly new student. Chris and his geeky new roommate are scoped out by Devon - the evil frat president who invite them to a "party". The boys push dry ice smoke out of the way, brave the ever present lightening and are greeted at the door by an ax wielding frat boy! Needless to say, this is a horror movie and there is plenty of tastefully spat out excess blood in store for you horror movie fans.

The frat boys are actually vampires who perform their blood letting rituals in their underwear while on top of sumptuous blood stained, satin bed linens. While there is not as much flesh as in The Brotherhood II: Young Warlocks, this film will manage to make you laugh, get aroused and it might scare the silliest of you.

Hot Sexy Film but Audio Commentary Disappointing

This film, like #2, is decently made with a never-dull story line. Plus who
doesn't like stunning young men running around in their well packed
tighty whities. My one disappointment is the audio commentary on this film or #2, I don't remember which. In it director DeCoteau and which-
ever film's star make a point of pointing out that the film was not made to be pointedly homoerotic. The fact that they feel the need to make that
statement is by its very utterance homophobic.

This is a very interesting story line concerning modern day vampires with a suttle gay theme throughout. A lot more action is seen in this film with a fair amount of blood, but no fangs, a very interesting change! Overall the film is faily well done but not a block-buster.INTERESTING!!!

As an bi-sexual guy who likes to hook up with a guy and a girl at the same time, I can honestly say that these two movies keep me up all night. The guys are hot and the love scene between the main star and the starlette while one of his fraternity brothers watches, only to later join is SOOOOO HHHHOOOOOTTT!!!

If you like prettyboys who are straight then this movie is worth the investment.

I've had straight guys look at the love scene who could not help but pop wood.
