Synopsis

A washed-up rock duo reinvents itself as a wildly inappropriate children’s act in this musical comedy co-starring Chris Parnell and the incomparable Miss Mink Stole. A hit at Outfest in 2007, Sunny and Share Love You is finally coming to DVD.

Anneka Hawn and her sexually fluid husband Clay Monroe (screenwriters Michele Mulroney and Micah Schraft), one-hit wonders "Kill The Puppy," may be washed-up, but they are still dirty. Modesto filmmaker Kevin Keith Baker follows the bitterly divorced rockers as they unleash their music on a whole new audience: kindergarteners.

By day, they’re "Sunny and Share," injecting their twisted tunes about pedophilia, lung cancer and homemade bombs into the curriculum. By night, they walk on the dark side, dabbling in drugs, amateur porn and prostitution. Finally, a rock 'n' roll movie musical for the unattractive, unloved, unarmed inner child in each of us.

Inventive and Wild

Michele Mulroney and Micah Schraft give us one of the most inventive movies we have had in a long time. Not only did they write some of the songs but they star in the film as well. The film takes a look at almost everything of importance—family, art, love, friendship and do so with just the right amount of satire.
The film is about a duo of singers whose time has passed and so they decide to change the way they do things and reinvent themselves for children’s parties. The problem is that they are totally inappropriate for children. The duo is Anneka Hawk (Mulroney) and Clay (Schraft). They once had a hit with “Kill the Puppy” but during its success the couple divorced. Now low on cash with no prospects, they decide that they should sing for young kids and they change their names to Sunny and Share. They sing about pedophilia, homemade bombs and lung cancer. When they are not singing they live dark lives and they fool around with prostitution, drugs and porn and Clay is a man with ever-changing sexual tastes.
Here is ensemble acting at its best and there will be comparisons to “Best in Show” and “A Mighty Wind”. If you like black humor, this is a film for you.

I was fortunate enough to see this little indie project back in 2007. To see it finally crash onto the DVD scene 4 years later is the least this original and quirky mockumentary deserves. Written and starring newcomers Mulroney and Schraft, the story follows Kevin Keith Baker's (Chris Parnell) attempt to reunite the B list 90's singing combo know as 'Kill the Puppy'. The journey sees Anneka (Mulroney) and Clay (Schraft) join forces once again, who subsequently go onto entertain school children with the most inappropriate songs imaginable. The film moves at a great pace and contains genuine laugh out loud set pieces, as well as some darker moments.
The sound track is fantastic and the pair could easily pursue careers as credible recording artists, away from these crazy fictitious characters.

If you fancy a break from cutsie rom com, or Sly chewing on a cigar whilst blowing things up, then check out this hidden gem.
