Review

Alternately witty, violent and perverted, Skin and Bone follows three hunky young men who are hustlers of a very particular sort. They enact sexual fantasies for a primarily male clientele. The fantasies run the gamut from violently attacking a general to pissing in a jar; they give us, the viewer, a taste of human sexual variety. The film explores the complex contortions their personalities undergo as the young men grapple with their role as merchandise fitted purely for the desires of their purchaser. They have convinced themselves that they are 'actors', that the fantasies are 'performances', and so they exist in a fabric of self-delusion, which leads to serious consequences. A tragic and sad sexual drama - which so happens to be everyday life for a segment of our society.

"Young, Cute and "Working"

Harry, Dean and Billy want to be actors but nothing seems to be happening for them and they become call boys. They provide the fulfillment of sexual fantasies for the rich men and women of Hollywood. They engage in role playing and sometimes these fantasies go out to the street. One client wants to experience police mistreatment, for example. The boys also make porn films once in a while and this allows them to pursue their own fantasies of being actors. However the treatment that they receive is that of porn actors or sexual beings and this does not provide the respect that they seek. The reason for their existence is to satisfy their “Janes and Johns” and does nothing for their self esteem. The people that hire them treat them as property and their agent (“pimp”) is no better. However the money is good and the boys cannot seem to find a way out and leave that behind
This is a film about dreams and everyone in the film has dreams but some of those dreams are really obsessions which are quite dangerous. There is a lot of manipulation going on here and we see the shallowness and the callousness of the sex industry. Even though some of the film is very funny, there is not a lot of happiness here and even after death, sexual exploitation continues.
We get an intense look at the sex trade and director Everett Lewis takes us on quite a journey. He mixes sex, violence and humor and gives us a great deal to think about. If for no reason, listen to the soundtrack by Pansy Division but there is a great deal more to this than that.

To be honest this film got me more worked up than most porn films. If you're into S&M and Voyeurism--this film will treat you just right. Some scenes seem so real it makes you wonder exactly how was this filmed. I can still hear the screams.
