Widower John McConnell gets along fine raising his daughter on Georgia's Tybee Island, though he wouldn't exactly say he's happy. Haunted by the memory of his dead wife, John hasn't considered dating again until he meets Bryan Simmons in the park. It isn't long before John realizes that what he feels for Bryan could be something real, but how will he know he's ready to move on?

Sand and Water is a tender romance novel by Shae Connor. John is a widower and lives on Tybee Island outside of Savannah, GA. While taking his daughter Beth to the park, he meets an out and proud Bryan who is there with his nephew Jeremy. Bryan is recovering from a tragic incident in Atlanta here his ex-partner was beaten. Beth and Jeremy are playmates and this brings the two guys together. As they develop a friendship, they also begin to realize that they have feelings for each other. Their families’ see what is happening and try to remain neutral and support their respective relative as these two guys take their time to get to know each other and try to explore a relationship.
This is a seriously well written novel. Connor tells an entirely plausible story of building a relationship while dealing with past dramas and getting things in order so that one can move on. Not too much drama going on here. It’s really nice to find a novel that really resembles life. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romance novels, regardless of sexuality or gender. I will also keep this one in my library and I will keep an eye out for books by Shae Connor.
