Director Georgia Lee brings us a poetic, feel–good dramedy about the trials and tribulations of a Chinese–American family starring the sultry Jacqueline Kim. (As you fanatic devotees know, Kim and Lucy Lawless had one of the hottest sex scenes on network TV!) Set in the suburbs of New York, this lyrical narrative follows three independent sisters navigating relationships in the murky waters of their dysfunctional family whose father (Tzi Ma, Akeelah and the Bee) disappears to a Buddhist Monastery. The ambitious businesswoman Samantha (Kim, Xena: Warrior Princess, Brokedown Palace) is all set to get married, but like her father, questions her life's path. The middle sibling Julie (Elaine Kao) is the timid med student who finds her own voice after falling in love with a sexy, A–list actress and decides to come out to her family. The youngest is Katie (Kathy Shao-Lin Lee) who uses extraneous pranks to show the boy of her dreams how she feels about him. Red Doors protect a home and those who live in it and thus in this engaging film filled with dark humor, Georgia Lee brilliantly captures the struggles and hope of these eccentric characters.
