Synopsis

If you're ever planning to get arrested and spend some time in the slammer, do it in Denmark! Compare this new movie to any given episode of "Oz" and Danish prison will seem like a breeze!

In R, Nordic cutie Johan Philip Asbæk stars as Rune, a quiet, surprisingly cleanly street thug who has been transferred to one of the toughest prison wards in Denmark. At first, Rune seems like ideal rape bait - his enterance is met with cat-calls and whistles. Rune, however, has a mind for the drug trade. As he gets closer to some of the older, more calculated inmates and starts dealing substances within the prison, his status rises and his ass becomes temporarily safe. In other words, though well-crafted and engrossing, it's pretty much the same plot that you'll find in the far more acclaimed French drama A Prophet.

Prison-sex fantasizers might be dissapointed by R's lack of sweaty, violent man-on-man action. This flick is not nearly as hot as Locked Up or Release - to be totally honest, it's not even as homoerotic as The Shawshank Redemption. While some of the other inmates like to dominate and humiliate Rune, their pranks and demands are completely non-sexual. Still, there is a lot of flesh on display - including Johan Philip Asbæk's hot dick and tight, hairy little body - along with numerous scenes where, under the watchful eyes of prison guards, Johan either strips off his clothes or is forcably stripped and bound. That alone makes R worth a watch!
