A star-crossed romance with humor and heart by James Klise, Love Drugged explores the consequences of a life constructed almost entirely of lies... especially the lies we tell ourselves.
Fifteen-year old Jamie Bates has a fail-safe strategy for surviving high school: fit in. Keep a low profile. And, above all, protect his biggest secret—he’s gay. So when a classmate discovers the truth, a terrified Jamie decides it’s time to change. After accepting flirtatious advances from Celia, the richest and most beautiful girl in school, Jamie steals an experimental new drug that’s supposed to "cure" his attraction to guys. At first, Jamie thinks he’s finally on track to living a "normal" life. But at what cost? As the drug’s side effects worsen and his relationship with Celia heats up, Jamie begins to realize that lying and using could shatter the fragile world of deception that he’s created—and hurt the people closest to him.
I never thought I would enjoy a book about a young kid in High School, Was I mistaken. My own High School wasn’t anything close to being fun or memorable. Jamie grew up as a only child living with his parents and grandparents in Chicago. Trying to survive high school like any other kids in school but Jamie has a secret he’s gay and trying to hide his feeling for a class mate Ivan, so he makes friends with Celia the prettiest girl in school. Things start to heat up with Celia and Jamie find out that Celia’s father invents pharmaceuticals and has invented a drug that can change a gay man to become a straight one. And he ended up stealing 11 pills to start with to change his feeling from Ivan towards Celia.
The fun begins.
The story is a page turner, Fast paced with twist and turn a long the way. What will Jamie do this time is always on your mind. I would’ve loved to have him as a friend in school.
The trials of high school comes flooding over me the thoughts and memoirs I thought I had buried came flashing back at me with pain and embarrassment. Only Jamie seems to be doing a better job in school then I ever did.
The drug is called Rehomoline it is still is trial and that didn’t bother Jamie from stealing the drug from behind Celia’s fathers back. While searching for more pills he finds out the testing coming back say side effects potentially lethal but like most of us that is not going to stop Jamie in finding more pills.
I give this book 4 Stars. I couldn’t put this down.
