Review

Travolta and Newton-John created a small sensation in the late 1970s with this lively version of the drippy long-running Broadway musical. Set in the late 1950s, the film brought Travolta fame as a high school "greaser" who tries to hide his romance with "uncool" new girl Newton-John.

Spirited dance numbers and a pleasant score are the main attraction here. Channing steals the show as the leader of the girl greasers, and it's always nice to see the likes of Arden, Caesar, Blondell and Ghostley.

The "Greased Lightning" music number features lots of tightly packaged "packages", and Travolta was at the height of his on-screen sexuality. Good campy fun.
