Review

A teenage boy's sexual and emotional development is the theme in this pleasant Danish drama by gay filmmaker Stefan Christian Henszelman who died of AIDS in 1991. Shy Kristian is a gangly and innocent 16-year-old who becomes friends with two very different boys -- Henrik, a slightly effeminate and determinedly non-conformist student, and Patrick, a blond thug. When Patrick tells him that he is gay and introduces him to his older lover, Kristian is thrown into emotional turmoil. Similar to Denmark's other adolescent gay drama You Are Not Alone, this simple yet unpredictable story presents a positive outlook on a young man's sexual coming out and its effect on his friends. a great achievement considering the fact that when this movie was made, the best that america had come up with was "making love."

the protagonist is a straight boy trying to navigate the world of male companionship at a new school - all the while getting laid by as many females as he can.

initally he turns down an offer of friendship from the local "free spirit." then he gets a shock when he really gets to know the leader of the "in crowd."

happy ending followed by a silly finale. frontal nudity doesn't hurt!
