Bruno Gmünder and photographer Gaz threw a bunch of rough and tumble men into a cage and started taking photos. With hard muscles and the look of a fighter, these models exude masculinity through their cuts and bruises. While they may be strong and fierce, Gaz remains in control much like an animal tamer, taking snapping masterful shots. And yet... these men can turn into wild beasts any second!

FIGHT CLUB provides photographer Gaz a uniting theme for this collection of very masculine men, a series according to the introduction by Tom Cullis that was inspired by the David Fincher film Fight Club: 'These films have been an inspiration to Gaz and other artists romanticizing violence in the face of abuse and violence that people involuntarily experience everyday because of their gender, class status or sexual orientation.' The images are in both black and white and in color, and it is the color group that is the more successful. Gaz has captured the sweat, grease, fighting paraphernalia and expressions of fear, confrontation, and even camaraderie that occurs in the sport of boxing and wrestling, or simply one on one encounters.
Gaz's talent is most obvious in the manner in which he places his models, somehow talking with them to conjure the emotions of one who fights, whether for sport or survival. These men are at times bruised, beaten and sweating in the aftermath of a physical fight, or they are merely in the garb for the fighter, preening with a challenging look that is at once inviting and threatening. There is an overall celebration of masculinity here; some of the models are nude, others are in boxing gear, while others are in the locker room mode, or even embracing in mutual support or desire. Whatever the setting these are beautiful men who are in touch with that most masculine demonstration of macho - challenge and defense. A very fine collection of a gifted artist's work.
