Set in the uniquely Filipino world of macho dancers (Macho Dancer, Midnight Dancers) comes this wonderfully entertaining melodrama of one young man’s bitter search for his parents – a journey which takes him through the steamy underbelly of male prostitution, gay bars and sensuous nude dancing. Harry is a handsome young man – abandoned by both his prostitute mother and American soldier father – who leaves his small town with his seriously cute best friend James to find a better life in Manila. They move in with James’ lesbian sister and her lover and quickly succumb to the easy money of gay prostitution. The scenes of him and his friends in exotic dance numbers and gyrating on-stage showers are worth the price of admission alone. But the money, sex and even his relationship with a female prostitute can’t stop him in his angry search for his abusive father. The sex club scenes are almost surreal, the kung-fu violence over-the-top (you’ll never listen to a harmonica the same way again), his reunion with his whore mother disturbing even for the most jaded, and Harry’s finale confrontation with his father all contribute to make this a memorable experience. Come for the tender flesh but stay for this involving story of love and family. (Tagalog with English subtitles)
