Synopsis

In 1974, a misguided 19 year old named Michael Peterson decided he wanted to make a name for himself and so, with a homemade sawn-off shotgun and a head full of dreams he attempted to rob a post office. Swiftly apprehended and originally sentenced to 7 years in jail, Peterson has subsequently been behind bars for 34 years, 30 of which have been spent in solitary confinement. With an intelligent, provocative and stylized approach, Bronson (based on a true story) follows the metamorphosis of Mickey Peterson into Britain’s most dangerous prisoner, Charles Bronson.

Tom Hardy bulked up to play this role - and he looks damn good naked (even when he's covered in fake excrement, believe it or not).
There are two supporting gay roles in the movie. Without giving away too much, we'll just say that one character's fate is a little better than the other's.
We'll see Tom Hardy in pretty much any movie he does. Though he's married, when asked about his gay role in the film RocknRolla, Hardy admitted to experimenting with boys in his younger days and said "I'm done experimenting but there's plenty of stuff in a relationship with another man, especially gay men, that I need in my life." What a sweetie.

Soon-to-be Batman villain Tom Hardy gives a brilliantly deranged, high-energy performance (and appears full frontal!) as "Charlie Bronson" (a.k.a Michael Peterson), Britain's most violent prisoner, in this kaleidoscopic biopic from acclaimed Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive, Valhalla Rising, The Pusher Trilogy).

Combining scenes of Bronson's struggles and fist-fuelled achievements in jail with fantasy sequences where he hams it up on stage in a one-man-show about his experiences (similar to the formula they used for the musical sequences in Chicago), the film offers a dizzying, yet exhilarating, experience.

Not for faint hearts of weak stomachs, Bronson features severe violence and numerous gross-out moments - but it's also surprisingly gay-friendly. Matt King offers a calming and subtly funny performance as Tom Hardy’s Leonard Frey-in-The Boys in the Band-esque gay prison buddy – one of the few people in the movie that Bronson doesn’t beat to a bloody pulp.
