Another collection of cutting-edge short films from Strand Releasing
The third installment in Strand's series of gay short films contains five short films of varying quality and interest.
Majorettes in Space - A somewhat strange 6 minute animated French film that draws parallels about human sexuality and AIDS.
Hitch - Bradley Rust Gray's 18 minute film about two guys on a drive, one gay and one "straight". This edgy short film is packed with sexual tension and the two boys provide plenty of eye candy.
Inside Out - was written, directed and stars Jason Gould, son of icon Barbra Streisand and Elliot Gould. It's an autobiographical film about the son of celebrities. Although the film is certainly amateurish, it's plenty of fun and there is some juicy celebrity guessing here.
Just One Time -Lane Janger's 7 min. film about a straight man's desire to see his fiancée make love with another woman. But what she wants in exchange, is for her man to make love with another man! Starring Lane Janger and the always adorable Guilllermo Diaz (Stonewall and I Think I Do)
$30 - The last short was by Gregory Cook and written by Christopher Landon, son of Michael Landon. It's about a young gay man whose father brings him to a prostitute (Sara Gilbert) for his birthday. Instead of sex the two stars bond in this warm and terrific short film, certainly a great ending to the collection.

Always Interesting If Not Always Good

Though I found this collection of shorts engaging, I wasn't as impressed with it as I was with other collections of gay short films. Jason "Barbra's son" Gould's contribution, "Inside Out" is cute, if a bit meandering, with its autobiographical storyline. As Jason wrestles with the tribulations of being gay as well as being the son of celebrities, he actually comes across more like Woody Allen's son than Barbra Streisand's or Elliott Gould's. He should get points for getting Christina Crawford to appear in a self-deprecating role as herself. Jason's father Elliott makes an appearance, but he wisely leaves his mother out of it. "Just One Time" also is cute, and "Majorettes in Space" is... well, it's very French. It also cotains this selection's only scenes of full-frontal male nudity (erect, no less). Unfortunately, Bradley Rust Gray's "Hitch," which features two of the cutest guys, does not, and it's a film that could use some gratuitous penis shots. Imagine if Vincent Gallo was capable of directing a movie in which he didn't star. Next imagine that movie was a homoerotic Marlboro commercial, and you get an idea of what "Hitch" is like. By far the best of the lot is "$30," helped by a more focused storyline, sharp writing and the always-welcome Sara Gilbert. "Boys Life 3" is worthwhile viewing overall, but keep your expectations low.
