Boots for the Gentleman is a story of fiction and fantasy, though I don’t really know how it is classified. Augusta Li and Eon De Beaumont wrote a story of Querry, an enterprising young thief who has escaped the horrors of slaving in factory work and is working on commission for a mysterious faerie gentleman. Sent often to steal things such as a lone boot and other odds and ends, Querry finds that he is attracted to the mysterious and possibly dangerous employer. He has, though, been in love with a young man who was enslaved with him in the factories when they were orphans. The faerie gentleman tries to get Querry to go to bed with him but sends Querry away when he finds that Querry has his heart set on someone else.

One last cryptic message for his gentleman sets into motion a chain of events that leads Querry to a clockwork doll that seems almost human. There are definitely things that point to magic in the creation of this doll, but Querry soon finds himself falling for this lovely creation. When he tells Reg, his former lover about this doll, Reg warns him of the danger that being with the doll, Frolic, entails. A powerful Lord also wants the doll.

The story is enchanting, spellbinding and romantic. This is mystery, magic, intrigue and a whole host of other emotions that you will experience. An expertly woven story, Boots takes you on a journey that reminds me of Harry Potter or The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. You will root for Querry and his friends as they fight to be together. I couldn’t put this book down. Another that should be made into a movie!
