- Augusten Burroughs
Augusten Burroughs
Though many critics question the authenticity of his work, Augusten Burroughs almost single handedly ignited American readers' interest in memoirs with his second book Running with Scissors. With his sharp tongue and indisputable wit he could make any story interesting, but when you have stories like his, the writing is icing on the cake.
Burroughs was born in Pittsburgh, PA and despite having no formal education he climbed the ranks at an advertising agency while battling his own alcoholism. When he began writing his first book, Sellevision, he stopped drinking and hasn't looked back. Since then Burroughs has penned 4 best sellers, most notably Running with Scissors, which was adapted for the big screen in 2005 and starred Alec Baldwin, Gwyneth Paltrow, Annette Bening, and Jill Clayburgh.
Burroughs now lives in Amherst with his partner Dennis and their two French Bulldogs. Sellevision is reportedly in development as a feature film and he is working on his next book.
